Harlow Innovation Hub host delegation to encourage local growth, collaboration and innovation!

On Tuesday 26th September, 2023 the ARISE Innovation Hub, Harlow were delighted to welcome a Baden-Württemberg (South West German state) delegation. The team highlighted the benefits of locating in the innovative town of Harlow, Essex and the existing MedTech ecosystem and support that exists locally.

The delegation represented businesses from Germany’s top healthcare location. These include people who work with Digital Health; such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Healthcare, Medical Wearables, Robotic Surgery, and AI imaging for Prostate Cancer. They were keen to explore collaboration, invest and get to know companies locally. They were looking for start-ups, research institutes, universities and associations, or companies, wanting to do business with one of Germany’s most innovative states.

The Baden-Württemberg delegation heard introductions from the Arise Director, on the Arise ecosystem. Essex County Council spoke about Ambitious Essex and on the economic growth of the county. Harlow Council flew the flag of the innovative town, talking through the opportunities available locally and detailing many of the MedTech linked businesses that are located within the town. There were also presentations from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) on achieving transformative benefits locally, and globally, through partnership. ARU Professor of Health and Biomedicine, Selim Cellek talked of the discovery of anti-fibrotic drugs through phenotypic screening.

 

Nicola Pinder, UK representative for Baden-Württemberg said. “We are looking to connect with businesses and potential research partners in Harlow and the wider Essex region. There are opportunities to collaborate, locate and invest here. The state of Baden-Württemberg is known for its innovative Medtech and diverse healthcare research sector. We share many synergies with Essex and the UK Innovation Corridor.”

Funding is available from Innovate UK for UK HealthTech businesses, working with German partners. Innovate UK will work with the Federal Ministry for Economic affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in Germany to invest up to £4m. This fund can support scientific cooperation’s and technology transfer, including between Essex and the Baden-Württemberg region. It will support UK businesses to collaborate successfully with German counterparts and build global growth prospects. The aim is to support UK-German business–led collaboration.
