Kyte IT: Starting up, growing & community

Posted on October 25th, 2024 in Harlow Business Case Study

Kyte IT, a small business based in Harlow, has been at the forefront of providing managed IT services for 6 years. Founded by the then 25-year-old entrepreneur James Howard, the company has evolved into a prime example of how perseverance and passion can turn a start-up into a thriving enterprise. With expertise spanning across industries like manufacturing, non-profits, health and social care, professional services, and B2B, Kyte IT has built a reputation for tailored IT solutions and exceptional customer care. We asked James about his journey in starting up a business, he said:

“Starting up was hard, all I had was my phone and a list of contacts. At the time there wasn’t much support for young entrepreneurs like me and I often wondered if I had made the right choice in starting my own business. But it worked out and I’m proud to say I have always been my own boss, working on projects that I am passionate about with other local businesses like mine.”

Today, Kyte IT has a team of five, providing services nationwide while still maintaining a strong desire to engage with more local clients in Harlow. The company offers a wide range of IT solutions, including day-to-day support, physical installations, cyber security audits, strategic consultancy, assistance with cyber accreditation and more. When asked what makes Kyte IT so special, James said:

Our customers have said they like our energy and unique relationships, seeing us as part of their team. We have their back every step of the way and try to solve any problems as quick as we can. We have unique trust with our clients to support their business strategically with leading and innovative IT. I even have clients who will greet me with a bear hug or call me for advice on their business decisions – that’s who we are, supportive and friendly.”

The team have already worked with well know local organisations like Rainbow Services, Employ-Ability, St Clare Hospice, WECAN, NAPA and Parndon Mill. The company even extended its support to the BBC’s DIY SOS when they visited Harlow to assist with The Butterfly Effect in 2023. They’ve just committed to continuing their work with the DIY SOS team by servicing 12 of their sites with Wi-Fi capabilities from October 2024 till December 2025, providing temporary mobile internet to the production studios at each site.

Sustainability is at the heart of their business model. In 2020, the company completed the Steps to Environmental Management (STEM) course and was awarded a silver accreditation. Kyte IT remains committed to reducing its carbon footprint while delivering high-quality IT services to its clients.

Recently the team hosted free workshops with West Essex Business Support from NWES Harlow Enterprise Hub, where they explored how automation and AI can benefit small businesses by implementing small changes with big impacts. Future workshops are already in the pipeline and businesses can find out more on our events page.

When asked about future plans for the business James said:

“We want to grow and work with more businesses, establishing ourselves as local leaders in IT and tech by continuing to deliver truly innovative solutions bolstered by our 5-star reputation for great customer service. Ultimately, we want to continue helping small businesses day to day and be a solid pillar of the business community. We love hearing about our clients doing well.”

The team remains enthusiastic about building new connections, whether through business networking events or on-site visits. If you’re a local business in need of IT support, Kyte IT has a friendly and dependable team ready to lend a hand.
